Breakdown of Enrollment Periods:
Initial Coverage Election Period
The 7 months surrounding your 65th birthday
- This includes the three months prior to your 65th birthday.
- The month of your 65th birthday.
- The three months after your 65th birthday.
General Enrollment Period:
If you miss the enrollment period surrounding your birthday, you may sign up between January 1st and March 31st each year. Coverage will begin on July 1st, and may include a higher premium.
Special Enrollment Period:
If you are currently covered by a health insurance policy through a union company through your own employment or a family member’s, you will have a Special Enrollment Period after your prior coverage ends.
There are also other conditions in which you may qualify for Special Enrollment:
- Relocation
- Medicaid Eligibility
- Medicare prescription drug Extra Help
- Institution-provided care
Annual Election Period
This time frame is from October 15 to December 7th. Coverage will begin on January 1st of the upcoming year.
Special Disenrollment Period
January 1st through December 7th.
